Periodontal surgery helps eliminate bacteria from hard-to-reach areas in the periodontal pocket, allowing for the correction of issues in the bone structure of the teeth caused by gum disease.

When is periodontal surgery necessary?

This type of surgical intervention will be necessary in situations where gum disease is too advanced. In other words, when periodontal pockets have a depth greater than 6 millimeters, this type of surgery will be essential to access areas that are difficult to reach and cannot be treated through scaling and root planing.

How is the postoperative period of periodontal surgery?

Rinsing the mouth with chlorhexidine mouthwash during the first few days after the operation to prevent infection in the area.
